I hope I have given everyone at least one or two ideas of what to do for this year’s Halloween, a Green Halloween. If you have other green activity ideas that you would like to share, please let me know! I am always welcoming new ideas.

Okay, so I lied about Trick-or-Treating  for Cellular Phones being the last activity. Seriously, there are many other creative activities that you, your family, and your friends can do! All we need is just a little brain power. Am I right?

Anyways, check out this activity. I found out about it on a website called PlanetPals.com. I know this website is extremely kid-ish, but it has such a great green activity idea!

This activity is called, “Recycle and Earn,” by PlanetPals.com.

Activity: The Cell Phone, Inkjet, Toner Return Program. Visit official website.

What is it: The Cell Phone, Inkjet, Toner Return Program will assist schools and organizations to recycle ink jet, toner cartridges, and old cell phone and turn them into cash points.

So, while you’re out collecting cell phones, you might as well ask if people have used ink jet, toner cartridges that you can collect! So basically, trick-or-treating for ink jet, toner cartridges, and old cell phones!

Well, did Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF catch your interest? It did? That’s great? What? It didn’t? Wow, you are picky!

Today, I will introduce the LAST activity!

This third activity is called, Trick-or-Treating for Cellular Phones.

What is it: The Women’s Funding Alliance and other women’s fund around the country are working in multiple ways, such as partnering with Green Halloween, with the Good Deed Foundation to collect cell phones. The goal is to recycle one million cell phones by the end of every year, thereby raising over a million dollars to be distributed via grants to organizations working to alleviate women’s poverty and find lasting solutions to climate change.

What did you think of Reverse Trick-or-Treating? Did you like it? If yes, that’s awesome! If you answer is a no, then it’s okay. Today, I will introduce the second activity that you can do to make this year a Green Halloween.

This second activity is called, Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF.

Now, I am sure that you have heard of UNICEF. You are possibly involve with UNICEF! If you aren’t, this activity will tell you quite a bit about UNICEF.

Activity: Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF (United Nations Children’s Fund). Visit official website.

What is it: “If you have got a box full of change, it’s time to count it out and send it to UNICEF to help save kid’s lives. UNICEF — The United Nations Children’s Fund — is working in more than 150 countries to provide health care, clean water, nutrition and education to children and their families. And because UNICEF is so good at its job, it does not take a lot og money to make a big difference” — UNICEF.

As mentioned from last week’s post, I would be introducing a number of Green Halloween activities that you can do to help our planet. I also hinted that these activities are not your traditional trick-or-treating experience.

However, before I start.  I would like to say that I found these activities from GreenHalloween.org. So, all credits goes to GreenHalloween.org. All I am doing is spreading the word!

The first activity is called, Reverse Trick-or-Treating.

What is it: The purpose of this acitivity is to raise awareness of Fair Trade Certified chocolate and help end abusive labor conditions in the cocoa industry. This year, instead of accepting candy, hand out Fair Trade chocolate and/or informational cards on why supporting Fair Trade practices in the cocoa industry is a year’s round must!

“Reverse Trick-or-Treating is an initiative of Global Exchange and is collaboration between national and regional nonprofit organizations advocating for Fair Trade and against child labor in the cocoa industry, such as International Labor Rights Forum and Washington Fair Trade Coalition…Many organizations and chocolate companies, including numerous ones involved in Reverse Trick-or-Treating have signed the Commitment to Ethical Cocoa Sourcing, calling on the cocoa industry to end abusive child labor in the cocoa fields and pay cocoa farming families a fair price that allows them to meet their basic needs.” — GreenHalloween.org.

At about this point into the year, you should start to see gold and maroon leaves about to depart from their branches. You should start to feel the change in weather, possibly a little cooler. The reason I said, “possibly cooler” because our globe is heated. When our globe is warmer, possible severed weather changes occur. For example, we have had severed thunderstorms and constant rain in Colorado. Another example is, did you remember 2008’s Halloween? The weather was so awesomely pleasant! Everyone was able to flaunt his or her ghostly costumes without having the coverage of a sweater!

Anyway, the point of today’s post is to ask everyone to do a Green Halloween this year. For the following three weeks, I will introduce different Halloween activities that you, your family, and your friends can all do — to help our planet!

Hint: These activities are not your traditional trick-or-treating and are doable for those who think they are too old for trick-or-treating (ahem, teenagers!).

- Run dishwashers only when fully loaded!

- Hang your laundry to dry!

Utilize the heat of the sun to dry your clothes, saves two dollars a week! Of course, you should aslo remember to save water!

- Use cold water instead of hot water!

- Use small ovens or stove-top cooking methods instead of your large oven!

Use less energy = saving energy = helping the planet!

- Turn off the lighst that don’t need to be on!

- Buy low wattage or compact fluorescent light bulbs!

Save energy and money!

-  Run clothes washers only when you have a full load!

- Do ironing at one time!

Save energy and save you quite a handful of quarters!
